The role of Cabhrú

Providing independent living for the older people in the Dublin area.

Cabhrú is a registered charity and has provided independent living for the older people in the Dublin area for more than fifty years. The charity has always been directed by a volunteer Board and a small team of staff together with some volunteer assistance.

Residents are usually over fifty-five years of age and wish to live independent lives. Each resident has their own apartment with a kitchen/living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Residents are encouraged to furnish their apartments with their own furniture and treasured possessions. Some of the apartments are specially adapted for disabled residents.

For those residents with particular needs, the provision of assistance by other agencies is encouraged and facilitated.

Cabhrú endeavours to ensure that all residents are comfortable and safe.

Cabhrú has set a medium-term objective of becoming a Tier-3 Approved Housing Body and has taken on more staff and invested in customised IT systems over the past few years.

The volunteer Board of Cabhrú has similarly expanded to bring in more specific talent and experience in the areas of Financial Management, Construction Projects, and Tenant Welfare management.

The ongoing mission of Cabhrú is to develop adequate resources, both in personnel, facilities, and support services, to provide the best possible accommodation for our residents.

Within the context of ongoing limited resources and the growing demand for affordable accommodation, Cabhrú will strive to constantly improve its service to residents and play its part in meeting this crisis in our society.

Cabhrú Housing Association Services was formerly known as Catholic Housing Aid Society. As a Charity, Cabhrú has always been directed by a volunteer board and a small staff with some volunteer assistance.
